Miranda Kerr’s Breakfast Costs About As Much As Your Rent

Luxury goods peddling website, Net-A-Porter, has a new webseries called The Body Beautiful with Miranda Kerr. The former angel of mass produced, secretive and ill-fitting lingerie is offering advice on health and fitness and breakfast smoothies. Net-A-Porter asks:

I have literally never wondered that even one time, but I love breakfast and Miranda Kerr could not be any cuter, so yeah, I watched the shit out of the video. I plan on watching every installment of the series.

After watching the video, I’d be so into trying Kerr’s breakfast smoothie which would give me “maximum energy and vitality” like a supermodel, but I don’t have blender right now, so I’m out of luck. Also I don’t have that kind of money laying around. Neither do you. Elise Solé from Yahoo! Shine figured out that with the blender and everything, this supermodel’s breakfast costs $686. You read that right. Stop. Look at it again. If you move the decimal two places to the left and then subtract $6.86, her breakfast still costs more than my luxurious breakfast smoothie which is really just my room mate’s peanut butter on a spoon.

So, while that sounds like a banging smoothie, it’s not really accessible. However, in the video, Kerr mentions that she likes chocolate covered goji berries “as a treat.” That sounds like a legit and healthy treat and also something that non-supermodels can enjoy without going into debt. Survey Results: Learning More About Pets in the Workplace

To coincide with Take Your Dog to Work Day on Friday, June 21, Trupanion launched a survey to see how people really felt about pets in the workplace. Is a pet-friendly workplace (like Trupanion, for example, which encourages all 250 employees to bring their dogs and cats to work) really something pet owners are looking for, or is that a perception we have because of our environment? This is what we found out:

Of the 134 respondents, 97% owned at least one pet and 66% worked in an office that was not currently pet-friendly. But a whopping 86% said they think more highly of a company if it is a pet-friendly company and 43% said a pet-friendly workplace is a factor in choosing where they would like to work.

“I would take a pay cut to leave my current employer of 10 years to go and work for a pet friendly company,” said one respondent. “My dog is my best friend and being able to spend all day with my dog would be extremely valuable to me.”

69% of respondents noted that the best benefits of having their pet at work are stress relief, socialization for the pet, and simply having their pet by their side all day. 37% said that the daily exercise they get from their pets was another benefit.

“I find that our clients come in with a smile as they are greeted at the door by my dog and no one seems to leave without stopping to give him tummy rubs on the way out,” said one respondent. “It’s great for morale too.”

While the majority of respondents highly praised pets in the workplace, there was a selection of people who weren’t so supportive. Respondents noted that the distraction pets present in the workplace was the biggest drawback, followed by the potential for allergies suffered by co-workers.

“As a pet owner who loves her pet and all the pets I get to meet, I find it extremely disrespectful and inappropriate for us to forget that some people are uncomfortable around our pets or have allergies to them,” noted one respondent. “The workplace is not a place for our pets to be. I love sharing my rabbit with others, but I also want to respect their feelings and needs as well.”

This is a valid concern, and one we address here at the Trupanion office in our Pet Policy. It’s expected that all employees will respect co-workers and talk constructively through any issues that come up. An escalation process is also in place to handle incidents that cannot be resolved.

It may seem unbelievable, but we do have employees with pet allergies in our office, and we respect them and make accommodations that help them manage their symptoms. But we also know that we may be discouraging talent from joining our team because of our environment. We take that risk, because we see the incredible benefit pets bring – including high employee satisfaction and retention, increased company morale, and less overall stress.

5 Things I Learned About Boobs Today

Is it just me or has the media especially been ripe with boob related stories as of late? It’s probably me because I have a google alert for “boobs” and another one for “breasts.” Why? Because it’s my job.

1) Women learn the power of boobs at a very young age. This video shows a little girl wishing for big boobs on her birthday. It’s cute, but also a bummer because stupid society is already getting to her. The Guyism blogger who posted the video wrote the following about his hypothetical future daughter in response:

I’m not a parent so I’m not sure what the perspective is here. But how would you feel if you were a dad and your daughter made this wish? Like I’d definitely root for my daughter to have a rack in order to help out with all of the inherent advantages that come with that. But not too big. Definitely don’t want Jessica Rabbit.

Way to start sexualizing and slut-shaming your imaginary daughter, bro.

2) Clueless actress and vegan celebrity, Alicia Silverstone is starting a vegan breast milk sharing program called Kind Mama Milk Share  “…Because we are a community of beautiful souls who recognize the importance of food as health, I say we help support those mamas and babies who need a hand during one of the most important times in their lives.” Do your thing, vegan moms!

3) Guys who prefer big boobs to small boobs tend to be bigger misogynists. In a recent study, 32.7% of participants rated medium boobs as “most attractive,” 24.4% were into large boobs,19.1% were into very large boobs, 15.5% dig small boobs and 8.3% totally get boners for very small boobs. The biggest boobs were the dudes that displayed objectifying, violent and sexist attitudes towards women.

4) A Beijing woman played video games until her boobs exploded. Well, her breast implant ruptured. She was lying on her stomach for so long that the pressure damaged her allegedly low-quality implants. Her game of choice is called Dragon Summon and I’m probably going to buy it right now because it sounds engrossing.

5) Kim Kardashian’s boobs are bigger and more famous than ever. She had a baby, so her boobs are bigger. Apparently, the sex tape haver turned reality TV sensation is now a G-cup who is “obsessed with breastfeeding.” Titillating stuff.

Bad News About Processed Carbs: They Make You Hungry

They fill you up, and then they let you down, so far down that in a few hours you crave more. Sounds like crack, but nope, we’re talking about processed carbohydrates, and that opinion comes from researchers at the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. As Anahad O’Connor reports in the New York Times, the scientists gave nearly identical milkshakes to a dozen obese people on two occasions separated by several weeks. The sole difference in the shakes was that some were made with high-glycemic corn syrup and some with low-glycemic carbohydrates. As expected, O’Connor tells us, blood sugar levels rose more quickly in response to the high-glycemic milkshake, but what happened in the hours following the shake was more revealing. O’Connor reports that four hours after drinking the high-glycemic shake, blood sugar levels had plummeted into the hypoglycemic range, the subjects reported more hunger, and brain scans showed greater activation in parts of the brain that regulate cravings, reward and addictive behaviors. Christopher Gardner, a nutrition scientist at Stanford University who was not involved in the research, tells the Times that lesson number one from the study is that people should not just be told to eat less, but to “eat less refined carbohydrates and more whole foods.” Read more in the New York Times.

Her videos about sex, relationships, love, gender, life see viewers flock to her YouTube channel in their thousands. As well as having enjoying Emily Hartridge's tongue-in-cheek views fans get to relish a new 'pretend boyfriend' each week.

So as this week's offering about why men love women sees ex-athlete and TV presenter Andy Shepherd, 28, take the form of boyfriend, the video has unsurprisingly spurred almost 20,000 views.

'Andy is also a presenter and a really good actor so was a perfect pretend boyfriend. Also he's good looking which always helps,' said Emily.

Reason one, penises: Andy looks displeased as 'girlfriend' Emily cuddles up to his crotch instead of him

Emily's first reason that women love men in her video is 'the fact that they have penises'.

To illustrate her point with a sketch, she comes home from work and dismisses Andy's greeting instead opting to cuddle up to his crotch. 'I've missed you,' she says.

Her second reason is, bizarrely, that you can't get angry at men when they borrow your clothes. Viewers are treated to a scene in which Emily walks in on Andy wears a pretty blue dress while watching the television.

Her surreal scenes are intended for some 'much needed light entertainment', as her disclaimer reads. 'You might not agree with everything I say and that's fine,' she says.

Reason three is when a man smells good 'it is so intoxicating'.

'Sometimes if I walk past a guy on the street, who doesn't even have to be that attractive, if he smells good - that is me turned on,' she says.

'I call myself fairly independent, and I'm not the kind of girl to to rely on a man,' she says, but adds that she finds it sweet when a man tries to protect her and her out of harm's way.

Finally, her tenth reason is that women love it when men show their emotions.

'If a guy cries in front of you, as a woman you have just won the emotional lottery,' she says, as we see her initiate sex inappropriately as Andy cries over a deceased loved one.
